Semi fire backs up I-65

Indiana State Police closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 south of Columbus for several hours Monday afternoon after a semi trailer caught fire.

Harrison Township firefighters and a tanker truck from Jackson County were sent to the fire at about noon Monday. No injuries were reported.

The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed at the 64-mile marker near Walesboro, where traffic was diverted off the interstate for several hours during the afternoon.

A five-mile backup developed near the Columbus exit by 2:30 p.m. as traffic slowed to exit off the interstate at Walesboro.
