Letter: Column on tax cut has it wrong … rich will benefit

Michael Hicks’ column in The Republic on Nov. 17 has it wrong. If we want to help the people on the low side of our country’s horrible wealth divide, we need to raise the minimum wage.

Trickle down, or “filter through” as Hicks puts it, does not work. The proposed 42-percent cut in the corporate tax rate puts more money in the hands of the rich while the struggle of the poor gets worse. It’s no wonder some of them give up and fall back on government largess.
