CORINTH, N.Y. — Funeral services are set for a mother of nine children and her 15-year-old daughter who died when a fire broke out at the family’s home in the southern Adirondacks.

Authorities in Corinth in Saratoga County say 39-year-old Tonya Slimmer and daughter Briaunna died from smoke inhalation after the blaze broke out inside their home Monday morning. Officials say the likely cause of the fire was careless smoking.

Three of Slimmer’s other children — ages 1, 3 and 20 — were home at the time and were rescued by firefighters. Her other kids were at school and her husband was at work.

Funeral services for mother and daughter will be held Saturday morning at the First United Methodist Church in Corinth.
