ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Christopher Galbreath Jr. had 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists to help Sam Houston State beat Santa Clara 73-59 in the seventh-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout on Saturday.
The Bearkats (3-3) built a 36-17 lead at halftime and kept the margin in double digits the rest of the way. The Broncos (1-5) outscored Sam Houston State 42-37 in the second half but got no closer than 69-59 with less than a minute to go.
John Dewey III had 13 points and made 3 of 4 from 3-point range for the Bearkats, who made 9 of 20 from the arc. Jamal Williams added six points, nine rebounds and five assists.
KJ Feagin led Santa Clara with 24 points and Josip Vrankic added 16.
The Broncos shot just 6 of 23 from the field in the first half while Sam Houston State pulled away with 14-of-25 shooting.
