PORTLAND, Maine — Maine’s major hunting seasons are ending for the year.

The main seasons for hunting deer, bears and moose with firearms are coming to an end on Saturday. The seasons take place every fall and draw thousands of hunters into the woods of Maine.

The bear season was essentially already over, because most bear hunting takes place over bait. The season for using bait to lure bears ended on Sept. 23.

It’s still legal to hunt deer with archery in some parts of the state, and will be until Dec. 9. There is also a season for hunting deer with muzzleloaders that begins on Monday and runs until Dec. 9.
