Jennings County residents have multiple opportunities next weekend to celebrate the holiday season.

Events in North Vernon and Hayden are intended to bring smiles to people’s faces and warm feelings. Consider these options.

Saturday, in North Vernon

Christmas in the City will be from 5:30-9 p.m. Saturday at Stellar Plaza in downtown North Vernon.

“Everyone wants this to be an evening of fun and happy Christmas memories for our families. We are going to have more music than in the past. There will be many different groups performing continually throughout the evening,” said Tanya Burnett, an administrative assistant in the mayor’s office.

The evening will begin with a parade at 5:30 through downtown and ending at Stellar Plaza.

A free performance of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” will start at 6:15 at the plaza.

The community Christmas tree in the plaza will be lit at 6:30, which will kick off an evening of free musical performances by local musicians.

Craft and food vendors will sell their merchandise from booths around the plaza, and horse-drawn carriage rides will be available.

Children can have their picture taken with Santa for free, and craft activities and toy train rides will be available for children.

Sunday, in Hayden

The Hayden Historical Museum will host a public Christmas open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at the museum, 6715 W. County Road 20S. The event is free, but donations will be accepted.

It will include displays of holiday decorations at the music museum, the main Hayden museum and the old Sinclair gas station. The event will feature displays of what entertainment and Christmas was like in the 1960s, and music from earlier times.

A luncheon at the museum will include old-fashioned potato soup, snacks and dessert.
