Library accepting food for fines

The Bartholomew County Library is having a Food for Fines campaign from Dec. 4 through Dec. 17.

Library patrons may pay overdue fines by donating non-perishable food items, which will be given to Love Chapel or the Hope Food Pantry. Fines may be paid with food for all library materials including movies and audio books.

For every dollar owed in fines, at least one food item must be donated. A fine of $5.50 would require at least six food items.

The program is not available for those who have damaged or lost materials.

Donated food items should not be in glass containers, home-canned, expired, dented or damaged or have bar codes that have been lined or scratched through.

During the library’s first Food for Fines event last summer, 1,176 items were distributed to the two food pantries.
