ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — A Vermont town has named its new police chief after the previous chief resigned.

The Caledonian-Record reports retired Vermont State Trooper Detective Sgt. Tim Page will be St. Johnsbury’s next police chief. St. Johnsbury Town Manager Chad Whitehead said Page has signed a one-year contract with the department.

He will take command on Dec. 4, and will be commuting from Groton for the position.

Page has previously said he wants another challenge, and he would focus on team building within the department.

Former Police Chief Clem Houde resigned in June after he faced accusations of exchanging inappropriate text messages with a female subordinate.

Page will be taking over for acting chief Capt. Jason Gray.
