COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities say a man has been sentenced to five years in prison for using bombs to damage two South Carolina car washes.

Federal prosecutors said 45-year-old Jeffrey Daily damaged the Chesnee Car Wash in October 2014 and the Oasis Car Wash in Gaffney in July 2015.

Investigators say they searched Daily’s home less than two weeks after the second explosion and found parts and other items similar to those used in the bombs as well as another homemade explosive in his truck.

Prosecutors said in a news release that Daily pleaded guilty earlier this year to using an explosive device to damage a building.

Authorities didn’t say why Daily damaged the car washes.
