A local man was arrested on drug-related charges after Columbus police stopped his vehicle for not having a license plate on a trailer.

Officers stopped the vehicle near the 600 block of Chestnut Street after noticing the missing license plate in the 600 block of Chestnut St. at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When speaking with the driver, Daniel T. Elifritz, 51, Columbus, officers saw a clear bag containing narcotics inside the vehicle, Harris said.

Elifritz was arrested and officers found methamphetamine and marijuana in Elifritz’ clothing, Harris said. Elifritz was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Harris said.
