SAVANNAH, Ga. — A 16-year-old has been indicted for murder in the shooting of 15-year-old George Akins Jr. and the non-fatal shooting of another youth outside of a McDonald’s restaurant in Savannah.

The Savannah Morning News reports the Chatham County grand jury handed up an indictment for malice murder Nov. 21 against Jeffery Burton, saying he caused Akins’ Oct. 21 death. The grand jury also indicted Burton for felony murder by killing Akins during an aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the death.

Burton also faces charges of aggravated assault against four other victims, who were near Akins but not shot.

Police say two groups argued before getting into a confrontation outside of the restaurant which led to the shooting.

Authorities say Burton will be tried as an adult.
