HAMMOND, La. — Human skeletal remains found in Tangipahoa Parish have been positively identified as those of a man reported missing in August.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards, in a news release Thursday, said a rabbit hunter found the remains in the woods in Amite earlier this month. The coroner’s office says the remains belong to 50-year-old Leonard Hickerson, of Amite.

Hickerson was reported missing by family on Aug. 9.

The manner of death remains under investigation.
