North Vernon man dies in single-vehicle crash

A North Vernon man died in a single-vehicle crash on a Jennings County road.

The Indiana State Police and Jennings County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a crash on County Road 450W near U.S. 50 about 6 p.m. Thursday that claimed the life of Travis D. Green, 31.

Green was traveling northbound in a 2012 Hyundai Accent on County Road 450W, about a half mile south of U.S. 50, according to an initial investigation by Trooper Matt Holley of the Indiana State Police Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team.

Green, the lone occupant, lost control of the vehicle, ran off of the road for reasons not immediately known and struck a tree. The vehicle then came to rest on the edge of County Road 450W, where it caught fire, according to a state police news release.

Green was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office, the state police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, the state police said.

Trooper David Owsley, Jennings County EMS and Spencer Fire Department also assisted.
