Music swap meet planned

An event intended to bring musicians, collectors and vendors together is planned for mid-December in Jennings County.

The inaugural North Vernon Musicians Swap Meet is planned from noon to 9 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Vernon Gym, 29 W. Washington St. It’s open to the public, and admission is $5.

“Musician swap meets are really cool. They are kind of like gun shows only they are all about music instead of guns,” event organizer David Bishop said.

A musician swap meet provides an opportunity to buy, sell or trade musical instruments and equipment, and it’s an opportunity for the community to mingle with musicians and musicians and artists to network with each other, Bishop said.

“We are setting this up in a way that there will be plenty of room for vendors, but a person who just wants to sell one or two things can come in and just wheel and deal with the vendors that are there. It will be a great way to turn an unused musical instrument or equipment into some cash for Christmas,” Bishop said.

In addition to the vending area, a beer garden and an open mike area will be part of the event.

“We are hoping for a day of music jamming and a lot of mingling with the community and the artists,” Bishop said.

Vendor booth space may be rented for $25 for a 10-foot by 10-foot spot. For more information, call 812-523-4488.
