LELAND, N.C. — A North Carolina man is reporting his tortoise is missing — and he doesn’t think it slowly walked away.

The owner told the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department that his 100-pound (45 kilogram) African spurred tortoise disappeared Friday night from his home in Leland.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach obtained a police report where the owner told deputies he thinks his $500 pet was stolen.

The report lists the case as a larceny.

Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Emily Flax told the newspaper the case is being investigated and she can’t provide additional details.
