COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A proposed needle exchange program for El Paso County has received opposition by the majority of the county’s Board of Health.
The Gazette reports although the board did not take a formal vote on the proposed program at its Monday meeting, many board members urged El Paso County Public Health employees not to work for the nonprofit pushing for the proposed program, which effectively doomed the idea.
Longinos Gonzalez, a commissioner for the east central Colorado county, says there other “compassionate” options to address the issue.
Colorado Health Network CEO Darrell Vigil says the nonprofit will continue pushing for a Colorado Springs exchange and sending the money they had planned on investing to other parts of the state.
