CORVALLIS, Ore. — Authorities say because of jail overcrowding, a convicted felon was released after he was booked on new charges in Corvallis.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said Monday a 25-year-old man was arrested Thursday on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of heroin and methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon.

The sheriff’s office says Johnson was arrested along with two other suspects. One of them, a 22-year-old woman, was booked into jail on similar charges.

The other, a 28-year-old man, was issued a citation in lieu of custody for unlawful possession of heroin and meth and unlawful possession of a schedule I controlled substance.

The sheriff’s office says the arrests were made after deputies stopped a vehicle and found drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash a loaded semi-automatic handgun and a stolen bicycle inside.
