NORTH TROY, Vt. — The U.S. Border Patrol says a Haitian man has been arrested along the Vermont-Quebec border where he was trying to pick up four people who were illegally crossing into the United States from Canada.
A federal court affidavit says agents were called to an area along the border in North Troy Friday night after a report of an illegal entry from Canada.
An agent spotted a slow-moving car with Connecticut license plates. The driver, Junior Dely, a Haitian whose permission to be in the U.S. has expired, initially told agents he was lost, but later said he was waiting to pick up people crossing from Canada.
Agents later apprehended four Haitian citizens and a U.S. citizen child.
Dely was released after a federal court appearance. His attorney declined comment.
