BRANDON, Vt. — Bus drivers and paraeducators in a Vermont school district have voted to accept a tentative contract offer with a potential strike looming.

Officials with the Rutland Northeast Education Association tell the Rutland Herald that the vast majority of members voted Monday to approve the offer. They had been scheduled to go on strike Tuesday if no agreement was reached.

The school boards in the Otter Valley Unified Union School District and the Barstow Unified Union District are set to vote on the agreement Tuesday evening.

Negotiators worked with a federal mediator over the weekend to craft the compromise. Details will not be released until the boards approve it.
