PORTLAND, Maine — Weather knocked out power around Maine, including to the beacon of one of the state’s most beloved lighthouses.
The Bangor Daily News reports Portland Head Light went dark during outages that swept the state. The Cape Elizabeth lighthouse appeared to lose power for at least several hours on Wednesday morning.
Maine utilities say thousands of other customers were without power in the wake of high winds and rain that hit the state hard overnight. Outages peaked at more than 3,600 customers.
More than 1,700 Central Maine Power customers were still without power at midday Wednesday. Emera Maine reports fewer than 250 customers were without power at the same time. York County and Hancock County were the hardest hit parts of the utilities’ respective coverage areas.
