MONTGOMERY, N.Y. — Authorities say a motorist has been killed in a crash that occurred as the driver attempted to elude police on a Hudson Valley road.

State police say a police officer for the Orange County town of Crawford tried to stop a vehicle traveling on state Route 17K around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Troopers say the driver refused to pull over for the officer and kept driving into the neighboring town of Montgomery.

Police say the driver lost control on a curve, entered the westbound lane and hit an oncoming vehicle. Troopers say the driver of the fleeing vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased hasn’t been released.

The driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of neck and legs injuries.
