Alex Gross, Hauser senior basketball player

Gross led the Jets with 30 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots Friday in a 72-65 win at Morristown. Earlier in the week, he had 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 101-66 win against Trinity Lutheran.

His performance last week: “It was one of the biggest games of the year, and it was kind of like a rivalry game, so I felt good about it.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “We blast music and get pumped up in the locker room, and I pray.”

Favorite drink: “Root beer”

Favorite food: “My dad’s pancakes”

Favorite book: “The Bible”

Favorite class: “Government”

Role model: “Larry Bird”

Best advice: “Post up lower.”

Athletics goal: “I want to play college basketball, and I want to get to the state championship this year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Europe, to see the history.”

Taylor Best, South Decatur senior basketball player

Best led the Cougars with 26 points and added four rebounds in Saturday’s 60-53 loss to Oldenburg Academy. Earlier in the week, she had 19 points in a 50-37 loss at Crothersville.

Her performance last week: “I feel like our defense improved a little bit. We got to the free-throw line, and our free throws were better on Saturday than what they were previous.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “We listen to music and shoot around.”

Favorite drink: “Sweet tea”

Favorite food: “Chinese”

Favorite book: “A Stolen Life”

Favorite class: “Yearbook/student publications”

Role model: “My mom (Amy Best)”

Best advice: “To always play hard because it will pay off at the end.”

Athletics goal: “To be over .500 this year and place in the top five in our (Mid-Hoosier) Conference.”
