Time to give back

It’s doubtful that anyone needs a reminder about filling needs and helping others during the month of December. But if you’re seeking practical ways to do that, here are a few:

VARIOUS HOURS

Sharing business wisdom: SCORE needs volunteers who have a background in business or a related field to help start-up or existing businesses become successful. Volunteers will meet with and counsel entrepreneurs in one-hour, face-to-face sessions. Time commitment varies. Information: Columbus Chamber of Commerce, 812-379-4457; SouthEastIndiana.Score.org.

3 HOURS

Cleanliness is next to …: Developmental Services Inc. needs three volunteers to deep clean the client cooking class kitchen. Time commitment: Three- to four-hour shifts anytime between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. Volunteers also are needed as community mentors to share talents and hobbies with clients in education and enrichment programming. Time commitment varies based on volunteer’s availability and can be one time or ongoing. Information: Hanna Hodnett, 812-376-9404, ext. 161; [email protected].

3 HOURS PLUS

Down on the animal farm: Utopia Wildlife Rehabilitators needs one to two volunteers to feed and treat native species, clean animal enclosures, assist with preparation of educational programs and perform light grounds and facilities maintenance. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, willing to work in barn-like conditions and must provide a brief written summary of their background. Time commitment: 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday. Information: 812-546-6318.
