North girls take second in relays

Columbus North holds a relay meet each December with different events for the swimmers.

Saturday, the Bull Frogs finished second in the girls meet and fourth in the boys meet in the latest renewal of the Columbus North Relays.

“We had a lot of fun,” North coach Logan Schaefer said. “It’s a nice thing to put in our schedule this time of year with a lot of the great work that we’re doing to mix things up with some fun relays.”

The Bull Frog girls won two events and scored 334 points, finishing with 334 points. Floyd Central won with 370.

Betsy King, Erica Samuel, assistant coach Lindsay Vrooman and Madison Sandlin teamed to win the 100-yard medley relay in 54.42 seconds. Kaitlyn Niebrugge, Erica Samuel, Olivia Morlok and King took the 400 freestyle relay in 3:36.17.

Second-place finishes came from Abbey Landini, Riddhi Garg, Adeline Rush and Sandlin in the 100 freestyle relay (3:10.60) and Samuel, Caroline Swenson, Niebrugge and Karlie Brown in the 400 medley relay (4:40.24). Third-place finishes came from the 500 freestyle (5:26.36), 200 medley (2:17.36), 1,000 freestyle (11:36.6), 100 freestyle (53.74) and 200 backstroke relay (2:11.99).

The North boys team won three races to place fourth with 322 points. Floyd Central won with 378.

Jared Carroll, Albert Nusawardhana Michael Lee and Nico Jones took the 100 medley relay in 49.67. Arturo Lopez, Carlos Torres Martinez, Tristen Cook and Jones captured the 200 butterfly relay in 1:45.72.Evan Patterson, Carroll, Nick Green and Thomas Goble won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:09.05.

The Bull Frogs also placed second in four boys races — the 200 medley relay (1:49.19), 200 backstroke relay (1:49.32), 200 backstroke relay (1:48.97) and 100 freestyle relay (2:46.52).

“We had some best times in the relay exchanges, so that will be fun to inform the kids when they come back on Monday,” Schaefer said.
