Group holding not so silent night

The Downtown Merchants Associations of Columbus is planning an evening of shopping and holiday fun from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday during “It’s a Not So Silent Night,” with extended hours and specials throughout the night.

Free carriages rides are planned through the downtown, with two areas to start your ride: Viewpoint Books, 548 Washington St., and the small parking area next to PNC Bank, 333 Washington St. Watch for merchants participating in the elf hunt. Santa will be stationed outside The Commons, 300 Washington St., during the four-hour program.

“There’s a tremendous amount of camaraderie,” said Jeff Baker, owner of Baker’s Fine Gifts & Accessories, describing the evening.

While parents are shopping, kidcommons children’s museum will be entertaining youngsters. However, the preregistration deadline is 5 p.m. today at the museum, in person at 309 Washington St., or by phone at 812-378-3046.

The kidcommons event, which is 5:30 to 8 p.m., is for ages 3 to 12, with a $14 cost for members and $18 for non-members.

The Ugly Sweater Fun Run will start at 5 p.m. from White River Running Co., 325 Fifth St. The free race will be a one-mile loop around the downtown.
