WASHINGTON — Junior Robinson and Chris Wray combined to score 25 points and Mount St. Mary’s picked up its first road victory Monday night, holding off American University 59-56.

Greg Alexander drilled a 3-pointer with 4:53 left to put the Mountaineers in front for good and Wray converted two layups and a dunk to cap a 9-2 spurt that made it 57-52 with a minute left.

Sa’eed Nelson made two layups to pull American within one with 10 seconds to go but, after Bobby Planutis hit two free throws to give Mount St. Mary’s a 59-56 lead, missed a potential tying 3 at the buzzer.

Robinson finished with 13 points, five assists and three steals and Wray added 12 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks for Mount St. Mary’s (5-7).

Nelson, who was 7 of 21 from the field, scored the final nine points for American (3-7) and finished with 19 points. Larry Motuzis added 16 points and eight rebounds.
