Mabel Ann Baker, 79, of Columbus passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at her residence.

She was born December 4, 1938 in Decatur County, the daughter of Frederick and Hazel (Doles) Houpey.

Mabel was raised in Decatur County and has been a Columbus resident since 1956.

She graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1956 and retired from Rockwell Automation in Columbus. She was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing and crocheting.

She married Charles “Ed” Baker on October 27, 1962 in Westport. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2008. She is survived by her son, Donald Gene (Sue) Baker of Columbus; stepson, Lonnie Ray Baker of North Vernon; sisters, Ruby Henry of Westport and Clara Houpey of Columbus, brothers, William “Bill” (Pam) Houpey of Westport and John Houpey of Nulltown; granddaughter, Jackuelyn (Peter) White of Tulsa, Oklahoma, grandson, Paul Baker of Columbus; four step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Elnora Fish; and stepson, Charles Edward Baker Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Charles Aigner officiating. Burial will be at the Westport Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
