County treasurer seeks auditor’s office

Staff Reports

Bartholomew County Treasurer Pia O’Connor has announced she is seeking the Republican nomination for Bartholomew County auditor.

She is serving her second term as county treasurer and is precluded from running for a third term under Indiana law.

“I believe my team and I have been able to take the treasurer’s office to the next level of efficiency and financial responsibility, O’Connor said. “We have been able to improve the work flow, which has improved the collection process and reduced costs.”

O’Conner said when she was elected treasurer, the 2011 budget for the office was $255,811, and for 2018, the budget is $219,453, a 14 percent reduction.

O’Conner said she wants to provide more comprehensive and detailed reporting and a higher level of financial analysis to the auditor’s office.

“This would help other elected officials have the data to make more informed decisions and improve the public’s understanding of how our tax dollars are spent,” she said.

O’Conner is a fifth-generation Bartholomew County resident and lives on her family’s farm east of Columbus.

Because of term limits, Auditor Barb Hackman will not be allowed to seek another term.
