CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A West Virginia sheriff says four people died when the car they were in went over an embankment.

Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny told media that the crash happened Tuesday night as the car traveled south on U.S. 19 toward Clarksburg. Matheny said the car veered off the roadway, hit a parked vehicle and then went over the embankment. He said the circumstances around the crash are still under investigation.

Police have not released the identities of those involved in the crash, but said none were minors. Further details weren’t immediately available.
