WOLCOTT, Conn. — Police say a Connecticut school bus driver has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a young girl.

Joseph Addona of Wolcott was arrested Thursday and is accused of sexually assaulting a girl over a period of eight years, starting when she was 4 years old. Police say Addona was a “trusted acquaintance” of the girl and he was not her bus driver.

Addona was a driver for the New Britain Transit and was fired after police learned of the investigation. The 60-year-old is charged with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree harassment and risk of injury to a minor.

Addona’s attorney told The Republican-American that the man is innocent. Attorney Ioannis Kaloidis says the allegations are “completely false and unfounded” and that Addona will be vindicated in court.
