Ray C. Long

COLUMBUS

Ray C. Long, 83, of South Brooks Street, died at 5:30 p.m. December 19, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Ray was born July 27, 1934, in Madison County, Kentucky, the son of James L. and Ruby M. Anglin Long.

He married Sharon K. Tilley October 29, 1954.

He retired after 34 years of service as a buyer from Quality Mill Supply.

He was a member of Parkside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and was a soloist for the worship service.

Ray loved B Westerns and has published three books.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Revs. Gordon L. Tilley, Ralph Tilley, Monte V. Stetler and Dr. William Bailey officiating. Calling will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Gideon’s International or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; son, Timothy J. Long of Columbus, daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Moore and Melanie (Eric) Knechtel, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Mathew Moore of Columbus, James Long of Tucson, Arizona, Andrea Blackwood of Bloomington, Amelia Girard of Lexington, Kentucky, Ashlyn Knechtel of Columbus, Spencer Knechtel of Columbus, and Nicole Knechtel of Columbus; and a great-grandchild, Clattie Girard.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
