CHESNEE, S.C. — One man has died and another person was hurt after their vehicle collided with a police car in northern South Carolina.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the wreck happened around 6 a.m. Friday south of Chesnee in Spartanburg County.

Chesnee Police Chief Danny Swofford told media outlets one of his officers was driving to work when someone pulled in front of the officer on U.S. 221.

Spartanburg County Coroner Charles Clevenger said the victim was 30-year-old Devan Rachad Stevenson of Spartanburg. A passenger in Stevenson’s car was taken to a Spartanburg hospital. There was no word on that person’s condition.

The officer was also taken to a Spartanburg hospital to be checked out but did not appear to have serious injuries.
