LARAMIE, Wyo. — A prosecutor says she will not file an involuntary manslaughter charge against a man involved in a fatal shooting in southeast Wyoming.

The Laramie Boomerang reports that Albany County Prosecuting Attorney Peggy Trent reviewed the Sept. 9 shooting death of 43-year-old Matthew Butrick.

Authorities have said that 27-year-old Brice Page told investigators he saw Butrick chasing two teenagers on ATVs with his truck on a Forest Service road southeast of Laramie.

Page told police that he confronted the older man and Butrick aggressively advanced toward him. Page said he fired when Butrick ignored his warnings to back off.

Trent says Page acted recklessly but prosecutors could not prove he wasn’t acting in self-defense.
