Icemen roll to big victory

The Columbus Icemen concluded last weekend with a 9-2 rout of Westfield.

Matt Jordan netted three goals, while Sam Thomasson, Mark Mayhew, Payton Donica, John Menefee, Tom Sullivan and Andrew Roese all scored one.

Mayhew also had four assists, while Jordan and Danny Prochazka each added two and Sullivan, Connor Long and Menefee all had one.

Cam Stattenfield recorded 18 saves.

The Icemen were coming off a 4-2 loss to Central Indiana. Jordan and Thomason scored goals. Jacob Elliot, Roese and Jordan had assists. Evan Kuzman notched 33 saves.

The Icemen began the weekend with a 2-1 loss to Perry.

Prochazka netted an unassisted goal. Stattenfield posted 25 saves.

BASKETBALL

Teams post sweeps

Five schools swept their boys and girls games last week in the Elementary Basketball League.

In boys action, Rockcreek beat Clifty Creek 49-24, Columbus Signature Academy — Lincoln downed Taylorsville 42-24, Mt. Healthy edged Parkside 37-36, Richards doubled up Columbus Signature Academy — Fodrea 48-24 and Smith topped Schmitt 42-34.

For the girls, Rockcreek beat Clifty Creek 26-21, CSA-Lincoln downed Taylorsville 17-7, Mt. Healthy topped Parkside 34-22, Richards got past CSA-Fodrea 49-34 and Smith stopped Schmitt 38-15.

Panthers win tourney

The Jennings County eighth-grade girls White team beat Lanesville 44-24 and Scottsburg 29-18 to capture the Scottsburg Tournament. Lily Ernstes led the Panthers (9-2) with 16 points against Lanesville and 10 against Scottsburg.

The Jennings seventh-grade girls White team fell to Lanesville 33-28 and Scottsburg 35-17. Taylor Mowery led the Panthers (0-8) with eight points against Lanesville and seven against Scottsburg.
