VINELAND, N.J. — Volunteers staffed an all-day collection drive in New Jersey to aid children and families at the Puerto Rico Children’s Hospital.

The Vineland Daily Journal reports that toys, toiletries, non-prescription medication and donations were collected on Saturday at the daylong effort in Vineland that culminated with a Christmas concert.

Sheena Santiago of sponsor Grace Marmero & Associates said organizers wanted to reach as many children as possible, so they chose the children’s hospital “because families from all over Puerto Rico go there.”

Another sponsor was Williamstown nonprofit Bianca’s Kids, which donated $5,000 to the Puerto Rico Children’s Foundation.

Organizers say they hope donations will be delivered in time for Three Kings Day, but they still need donations to cover shipping costs. And they say the effort won’t stop after the holidays.
