Dining with diabetes returns

The four-session Dining with Diabetes program will return Jan. 17, with sessions planned for four consecutive Wednesdays at two locations.

The sessions will be conducted Jan. 17, 24, 31 and Feb. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Mill Race Center, 900 Lindsey St., Columbus, and from 6 to 8 p.m. those same days at New Hope Christian Church, 1404 W. 400N, Columbus — off U.S. 31 near Taylorsville.

Dining with Diabetes is designed especially for people with type 2 diabetes, their family members or anyone wishing to learn more about healthy eating.

The program will teach necessary skills to promote good health. Topics will include planning meals and snacks, reading food labels, using a variety of sweeteners, replacing salt with spices, the role of fiber in the diet, the difference between various types of fat, ideas for being more active and setting personal goals to manage diabetes.

Fees are $20 for individuals or $30 for couples. Inquire with Purdue Extension about availability of partial scholarships at either of the two sites.
