UNION MILLS, N.C. — Federal officials say an engine-related problem caused a Christmas Eve small-plane crash in North Carolina.

WLOS-TV reports the crash happened on Sunday night when a pilot was conducting a practice approach to a landing strip on private property in a remote part of Rutherford County.

There were no injuries reported, but authorities say the pilot was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The Federal Aviation Administration said on Tuesday that it’s continuing to investigate but believes engine problems were behind the crash.
