COLUMBUS
Hazel M. Gibson, 81, of Columbus, passed from this life at 8:27 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Gibson was a homemaker and a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Kentucky.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Jerry K. Day Sr. officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Love Chapel.

Hazel was born August 25, 1936 in Knob Lick, Kentucky. Mrs. Gibson was the daughter of Easton and Helen Hurt Shuffitt.
She married Rowe Gibson on March 29, 1954. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2005.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Kimberly) Gibson of Columbus, Robert (Candy) Gibson of Flat Rock, Michael (Tricia) Gibson of Columbus and Bruce (Kathy) Gibson of Columbus; a daughter, Rhonda (Mike) Wilkum of Columbus; a foster son, Gary Hamm of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Pat) Shuffitt of Bloomington and Ted (Sharon) Gibson of Kentucky; and her sisters, Judy Hamilton of Kentucky and Brenda (Ricky) Romine of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Raymond Shuffitt, David Shuffitt and Dale Shuffitt; a sister, Linda Merryman; and her great-grandsons, Carter Gibson and Dominic Melloh.
