Cougars finish fourth

EDINBURGH — Matt Cornett of South Decatur dropped 39 points Wednesday in a losing effort against Hagerstown to close the Edinburgh Holiday Classic with a fourth-place finish.

The Cougars outscored Hagerstown by seven points in the fourth quarter, but still came up three points short in the 66-63 loss. Other top scorers for South Decauter were Jacob Watts with 11 points and Brandon Benge with 10.

Jace-Cen-Del routs Trinity Lutheran

EDINBURGH— Trinity Lutheran finished sixth in the Edinburgh Holiday Classic after losing 83-70 to Jac-Cen-Del on Wednesday.

Jacob Rowe and AJ Goecker accounted for more than half of the Cougars points. Rowe scored a game-high 28 points on eight 3-point baskets. Goecker finished with 20 points, and Tyler Goecker added nine.

SWIMMING

Olympians place third in Mooresville Invite

MOORESVILLE— Ryan Singer earned Columbus East’s only first-place finish to help the Olympians finish third at the Mooresville Invitational on Wednesday.

Terre Haute South placed first out of the nine teams with 402 points. East had 295 points.

Singer finished the 100 yard breaststroke in 1 minute and 7.26 seconds. He also placed sixth in the 200 individual medley with a 2:20.60 time. He also was on the 400 freestyle relay team that finished third. The other three swimmers were Griff McGaha, Hayden Herbert and Evan Wieneke.

Wieneke finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:01.51) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:32.21). Other top finishes were McGaha earning sixth place the 50 freestyle (24.57) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.78). Will Bruin placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.02) and Hayden finished eighth in the 100 butterfly (1:07.29).

Maggie Gregory competed in the girls diving competition for the Olympians and placed fourth with a 304.50 score.

WRESTLING

Five Panthers advance to championship brackets

MOORESVILLE— Jennings County had five wrestlers go undefeated in the Mooresville Holiday Classic on Wednesday, and they will be competing in the today’s championship bracket.

Victor Antunez went 3-0 at 120 pounds as did Dalton Craig (132), Joey Moran (138), Brooks Wathen (152) and Zane Beineke (170). Teagan Johnson finished 3-1 and will be competing in the consolation round.
