INDOT announces upcoming road work

NORTH VERNON — The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a new $2,634,279 bridge and small structure construction project on state roads 3 and 7 in Decatur and Jennings counties.

Dave O’Mara Construction, North Vernon, has been awarded the contract and will begin work on the project as early as this month.

O’Mara crews will work to clear project sites in both Decatur and Jennings counties during January while actual construction of a bridge, a culvert and six small structures will begin in April.

While minimal interruption of traffic flow will occur in January, there will be a 60-day-long road closure in Decatur County and five additional 20-day periods of road closures in both Decatur and Jennings counties beginning in April.

During the 60-day closure of State Road 3 in Decatur County, a 76-feet-long bridge, a culvert and one other small structure will be replaced at three sites about 10 miles north of State Road 7 and near Sardinia.

Exact dates and sites of that closure will be announced prior to April.

The project will include the building of five additional culverts at the following sites:

State Road 3 will close for 20 days at Wyaloosing Creek in Decatur Creel about 16 miles north of State Road 7 and north of Westport.

State Road 3 at Poplar Root Creek in Decatur County, about eight miles north of State Road 7 between County Road 1300S and County Road 1400S, closure for 20 days.

There will be a 20-day closing at a Jennings County site about two miles north of State Road 7 just north of North Vernon

State Road 7 will close at a tributary to Six Mile Creek in Jennings County, north of the State Road 3 junction at North Vernon.

State Road 3 will close about two miles south of the State Road 7 junction at Vernon for 20 days to replace a structure on an unnamed tributary.
