BROCKTON, Mass. — Fire officials in Brockton are trying to determine the cause of a large fire that destroyed a commercial building across the street from a hospital. No injuries were reported.

The blaze on Saturday afternoon tore through a wooden building owned by a construction company that was the former home of a woodworking supplies business. Smoke billowed over the city’s east side, and firefighters from several towns responded.

Brockton Fire Chief Michael Williams told The Enterprise that people were doing woodworking when the fire broke out, but they didn’t know how it started. Everyone inside got out before firefighters arrived shortly before 3:30 p.m.

The building is across the street from Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, which wasn’t affected.
