CSA programs seek applicants

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. is accepting applications for Columbus Signature Academy programs.

Applications for CSA New Tech High School, CSA Central Middle School, CSA Lincoln and CSA Fodrea elementary schools may be filled out on the district’s website, www.bcsc.k12.in.us.

The deadline is Feb. 5.

Rockcreek teacher receives grant

A Rockcreek Elementary School teacher has received a grant from McDonald’s that will be used to enhance curriculum in her classroom.

Angie Ginder was awarded a $492 MAC grant from McDonald’s Restaurants of Central Indiana that will allow her to provide tools for students to build solar cars to help them better understand solar polar and kinetic energy.

Students nominated to service academies

Two local high school students have received service academy nominations.

Finn Anderson, a senior at Columbus North High School, and Eli Edwards, a senior at CSA New Tech High School, were among 29 students that were nominated by U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind. Anderson was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy, while Edwards was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The individuals chosen were evaluated using a competitive system recommended by the academies. The selection process includes a personal interview by Donnelly’s Service Academy Nominations Committee and a review of the applicant’s essays, academic records, letters of recommendation, community involvement, character and leadership experience.

Final admission decisions will be made by each individual academy following an evaluation that considers a candidate’s character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, goals and motivation.
