Evelyn Theresa Elsner

NORTH VERNON

Evelyn Theresa Elsner, 83, of North Vernon, IN, entered her eternal joy in heaven on Sunday, December 31, 2017. She was born on August 25, 1934, in Oldenburg, IN, to Joseph and Rose (Werner) Hartman. She married Oscar A. Elsner on February 23, 1957, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg.

Survivors include her husband, as well as her children, Steve of Friendswood, TX, Jim (Roxanne) of North Vernon, IN, Rose (John Rosenbalm) of Brownsburg, IN, Mark (Starlyn) of Martinsville, IN, and Andy (Amber) of North Vernon, IN. She greatly enjoyed her ten grandchildren, John, Zach, Clare, Daniel, Adam, Elliott, Elias, Lane, Drew and Brooks. She is also survived by three brothers, three sisters and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, one son (Dan) and two grandchildren (Ryan and Luke).

After graduating from the Immaculate Conception Academy, she worked in Cincinnati for a few years at Western Southern Insurance Company before she married. Evelyn loved pouring her life out in service for the church as well as enjoying many other activities including gardening, farming, walking in the woods, caring for her pets and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of The Rosary Society and St. Vincent DePaul to name a few. She was a model of Catholic faith and values. She was a blessing to all who knew her.

A rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, followed by visitation from 4 to 8 p.m, both at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon, IN. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Four Corners, IN, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 6.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Daniel J. Elsner Scholarship Fund through the Jennings County Community Foundation or St. Vincent DePaul of North Vernon.
