Irwin Financial Corp. reported an expected $20 million loss in the fourth quarter because of the continuing mortgage and housing crunch, the first time in history the corporation recorded a loss for an entire year.

Bartholomew County Commissioners, meeting for the first time with two new members elected in the fall, hired attorney John R. Rumple to represent it for a yearly flat fee of $50,000.
