Stars cruise past Olympians

BEDFORD — The Columbus East swimmers came up a little short Thursday night, falling at Bedford North Lawrence.

The Stars won the boys meet 111-73. Bedford took the girls contest 119-61.

Whitley Eicher led the Olympian girls with wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 20.18 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.14). Maggie Gregory took the diving competition (190.35), and Jennifer Utterback took the 100 freestyle (58.72). Cameron Kelly, Marin Wieneke, Eicher and Utterback teamed to capture the 200 medley relay (2:02.97).

The East boys won two events. Evan Wieneke took the 500 freestyle (5:31.79), and Ryan Singer captured the 100 breaststroke (1:07.30).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

South Decatur falls to North Decatur

GREENSBURG — South Decatur rallied from a 24-10 after one quarter to cut the lead to five, but North Decatur held on for a 56-45 Mid-Hoosier Conference win Thursday.

Taylor Best led the Cougars (2-15, 0-4) with 21 points. Madison Owens grabbed 12 rebounds.

Trinity Lutheran topples Senators

CAMPBELLSBURG — Trinity Lutheran trailed after one quarter Thursday before rallying for a 61-55 win at West Washington.

Piper Acton scored 16 points, and Abby Hackman added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (15-3). Sydney Jaynes had 11 points.

Edinburgh stops Sparkplugs

SPEEDWAY — Edinburgh led by only one going into the fourth quarter Wednesday before pulling away for a 48-36 win at Speedway.

Sidney Beier led the Lancers (8-7) with 16 points. Haven Link added 10.
