SALT LAKE CITY — The ex-president of a technical college in southern Utah who was fired earlier this week says she was the victim of blackmail by a disgruntled former employee.
The board of trustees for the Utah System of Technical Colleges voted 6-5 Wednesday to terminate Kelle Stephens. Stephens had served as president of Dixie Technical College in St. George since 2012.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported Friday that board chairman Jim Evans issued a statement thanking Stephens for her years of service, but provided no information about the reason for her dismissal.
Stephens provided a document to the newspaper she says proves she was blackmailed by a former employee who sent deceptively-edited audio recordings of her to trustees and state lawmakers.
The recordings and an accompanying letter suggested she engaged in discriminatory behavior.
