ST. GEORGE, Maine — The search for a missing clammer who disappeared off the coast of Maine during this week’s blizzard has been suspended.
The man was reported missing around 11 p.m. Thursday. The family of 35-year-old Paul Brenner says he departed from the Long Cove boat ramp to clam on Clark Island in St. George but didn’t return.
St. George is a coastal area located about 46 miles (74 kilometers) southeast of Augusta.
The Coast Guard says boat and helicopter searches have been performed since Brenner’s disappearance, but they’ve been unsuccessful.
Maine Marine Resources says crews searched Saturday near footprints, believed to be Brenner’s, that were found in mud and an area along the shore. It says the search has been suspended and will resume in the coming days, depending on weather.
