BARRE, Vt. — A Barre man has been sentenced to eight to 24 years in prison for causing a crash that killed elderly twin sisters in Vermont last February.
The Times Argus reports that 32-year-old Shaun Duprey, of Barre, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in October to gross negligent operation with death resulting and unrelated drug charges.
Police say Duprey, whose license was suspended, sped through a red light, claiming that his brakes were faulty and his passenger was running late for methadone treatment. Eighty-year-old Teresa White and Verna Cote were killed in the crash.
The victims’ family members spoke in court on Friday about what the sisters’ meant to them and the community.
Cote’s granddaughter said words could not express the pain and anguish their family and friends have endured.
