Tobacco-cessation series starting at local hospital

Healthy Communities is offering tobacco-cessation classes, funded through Columbus Regional Health.

The eight-week program uses the American Lung Association’s “Freedom from Smoking” curriculum. The first session begins Wednesday and continues through Feb. 28.

Upcoming sessions are March 7 to April 25, May 2 to June 20, July 11 to Aug. 29, and Sept. 5 to Oct. 24.

Participants will have access to FDA-approved cessation medication such as nicotine replacement patches or gum. Classes meet once a week from 6 to 8 p.m. at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 17th St.

Cost of the class is $35 and preregistration is preferred.

People 18 and older as well as their support partners may register by calling 800-699-1019 or emailing [email protected]. Fees are collected on the first day of class at the start of each session.
