OMAHA, Neb. — Police say an Omaha man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the hand while showing off a gun to his friends.

Omaha television station KETV reports that officers were called to Immanuel Hospital on Friday for a man seeking treatment of a gunshot wound.

Police spoke with a witness who said he was at the house of his friend when the friend pulled the trigger on the gun while holding the muzzle in his hand to show it was unloaded. But a round apparently remained in the chamber and fired.

Police collected evidence from the scene and booked the gun for safekeeping.
